Swapping a breaker for a bucket, changing the header on a harvester, connecting hydraulic tools on an aerial work platform — all these "change attachment in minutes" operations rely on quick couplings. They are small, yet they directly determine changeover speed, oil leakage and system cleanliness. Choose the wrong interface standard and at best the male and female ends do not mate and cannot be assembled, at worst the entire attachment interface has to be reworked. This article explains the three interface systems of hydraulic quick couplings and the key points of selection.
Below is a real photo of our hose assembly with quick couplings at both ends: one end is male (with a poppet valve on the face), the other end is female (with a knurled ball lock sleeve); push together and the circuit is connected, pull apart and it is disconnected — this is the standard "male and female" connection form.
